CJ Passarella

2021-2022 Co-President

President’s Statement: So many of my fondest moments in college were a result of my time at HAUSCR. The skills learned and experiences shared as the organization’s president are lessons and memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.

As the 2021-22 co-presidents, Eric and I had the opportunity to lead the integration of HAUSCR’s virtual and in-person conference components for the first time. Initially a result of the pandemic, we quickly came to realize that entirely online programming options would allow HAUSCR to further its commitment to providing accessible, liberal arts-style educational initiatives to as many students — and from as many places — as possible.

As the club’s programs continue to grow and diversify, I feel extremely grateful to have helped create such a comprehensive and horizon-expanding series of experiences for our students, from the first issue of our academic journal, Young Scholars Academic, to the entirely new Business Pioneers Conference with Harvard Business Publishing.

I look forward to remaining a member of the HAUSCR community for years to come, and to cheer on the next generation of club leaders!

2020-2021 Co-President

President’s Statement: HAUSCR has—and always will have—a special place in my heart. I first joined this organization during my freshman fall, and over the course of that year, I fell in love with the educational work we did, as well as the lovely people I had the fortune of working with. During my past four years in this club, I have worn a variety of hats, including junior directing HSYLC, working as a Community Director, and finally, serving as a co-President with Jenna Bao in 2020, which was one of HAUSCR’s most tumultuous times as a result of COVID-19.

Our presidency occurred during an unprecedented period, for both HAUSCR and the world. As a result, it was a very exciting time to be in our organization. As the first leadership team to traverse the uncharted waters of Harvard’s first full virtual academic year, we had the chance to make history in an organization that has always prided itself on achieving seemingly impossible milestones. During Jenna and my tenure, we not only converted all four of our annual in-person conferences to a digital format, we also launched HAUSCR’s inaugural journal, Young Scholars Academic, a bi-yearly periodical that publishes top-tier research papers written by Chinese high school students. In addition to that, we oversaw the creation of the HAUSCR portal, a centralized team management system that our members now use in their everyday HAUSCR-related work.

Though I have now passed on the helm to the 2021-2022 leadership team, I am proud to have called HAUSCR a home during my college years. It is an organization that means a lot to me, and the friendships I’ve made during my time in HAUSCR are those that will last a lifetime.
