Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in applying to 2010 HAUSCR Student Exchange Program! This is a list of frequently asked questions from last year's application process. As we receive more questions from applicants this year, we will update this list:

1. Q: I just found out about HAUSCR's Student Exchange Program today and really want to apply. However, it is almost December 31 and I do not think I have enough time to finish the application. Can I get an extension?

A: Because we are operating under a tight schedule, we would like all interested candidates to submit applications prior to the deadline. Extensions will only be granted under special circumstances.

2. Q: I am enrolled in a Chinese university, but I am currently studying abroad in the United States. Am I eligible to apply?

A: Yes. We welcome all students who are enrolled in Chinese universities as undergraduate students to apply for our program. However, if you are currently registered at a university in the United States, you are not eligible for our program.

3. Q: Does HAUSCR cover airfare to and from Harvard?

A: Unfortunately, we are unable to subsidize airplane transportation at this time. After we have selected our delegates, we will work together with everyone to facilitate group plane ticket options, etc. A number of past delegates have been able to obtain substantial funding from their respective universities.

4. Q: If I am selected for this program, will HAUSCR cover all of my costs at Harvard?

A: We will do our best to subsidize student expenses for the duration of the program. To this end, we will subsidize meal and transportation costs, and arrange for Harvard students to host you. However, you are responsible for your own spending outside of the program's planned events--including personal purchases and any additional expenses incurred before or after our program, April 2-9, 2010.

5. Q: I have friends at other universities in China who may be interested in applying. Can I inform them of this opportunity?

A: Of course! Currently we have shared the details of this program with some universities in China--but by no means all--so we would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word to your peers at other universities across China!

6. Q: I am currently a high school senior and will be applying to college next year. Am I eligible to apply?

A: Unfortunately, no. We are primarily looking for current college students, and you can find more details on the qualifications we are looking for at http://www.hauscr.org/usprograms/apply. However, we strongly encourage you to apply for HSYLC, HAUSCR's annual flagship event for high school students in China during the summer, and then consider applying to future HAUSCR student exchange programs after you enter college.

7. Q: I am a graduate student and I already have a Bachelor's degree. Am I eligible to apply?

A: Unfortunately, no. Our program is designed only for current undergraduate students enrolled at a Chinese university.

8. Q: The application asks for standardized tests that I have not yet taken. Does this affect my chances of being accepted?

A: No. The scores of standardized tests are used primarily to gauge your English abilities. If you have taken any tests that demonstrate your English abilities, please list them on your application, along with the score range.
