HSYLC Seminar Leader Program
The Seminar Leader will have an unparalleled opportunity to make contacts with the Chinese culture and people. Additionally, the Seminar Leader will delve into a specific area of his/her academic or extracurricular interest by designing and teaching a seminar for HSYLC’s Seminar Program.
Seminar Leader - Educator
As a Seminar Leader you will devise a program of study on a topic of your choice, to be taught in three days in two one-hour time blocks each day, repeated twice for a total of six days. All Seminars will be taught in English to students with an excellent grasp of the language. The kinds of topics your Seminar can explore are virtually endless, and you will have the freedom to decide how you want to teach the material you want to cover. You will also have a Chinese Course Assistant, who will be a college student as well, to help you with teaching responsibilities.
Seminar Leader - Proctorship
The HSYLC experience is modeled after Harvard’s own freshmen housing system. You will serve as a proctor for conference participants when classes are not in session. Your proctorship will be an organic extension of the relationships you develop with conference participants in the classroom, albeit in a more informal way. The high school students want to get to know you as not only a teacher, but also as a friend!
We look forward to seeing you! This is an excellent opportunity to explore a beautiful and economically vibrant part of China. Also, you will get a taste of the culture and its distinctions through the candid relationships you will make with conference participants, including some of the best high school and college students in the country, as well as notable business and academic figures.
