The Harvard College Association for US-China Relations (HAUSCR) is a student-run organization committed to bridging the gap between the United States and China through a number of unique programs. HAUSCR’s flagship program, the annual HAUSCR Summit for Young Leaders in China (HSYLC) is a week of exploration and development for Chinese high-school students conducted by Harvard undergraduates, faculty, and prominent leaders from both nations. At home, HAUSCR educates the Harvard community on the issues that confront the US and China with a unique mix of political, artistic, career-oriented, and cultural activities such as the China Symposium. |
History
Founded in fall 2005 by a group of seven enterprising Harvard College freshmen, HAUSCR became an official student-run organization in October of that year. Its inaugural year saw the creation of the HAUSCR Summit for Young Leaders in China (HSYLC), a summer conference for Chinese high school students. HSYLC 2006, supported by the Goldman Sachs Foundation and American Airlines, recruited 37 Harvard students to create and teach a curriculum at a sister school in Shanghai. The program received extensive media attention across China, bringing approximately 300 high school students from among thousands of applicants to participate in this one-of-a-kind program.
Since 2006, HAUSCR has expanded its summer program HSYLC each year to include a creative entrepreneurial program, ATVenture, and continues to attract influential speakers from around the world. In keeping with the spirit of expansion and innovation, the 2010 rendition of HSYLC will be held simultaneously in two locations: Beijing and Shanghai, China.
